10がつ6かのアクティビティ

Followings are today's activities. If you cannot finish all of them, please do the rest at home. Use your time effectively.

1. Listen to your classmates’ introductions and please choose the one you think is best.
(20 min.)

  • Go to wimba, and listen to the 8 introductions listed below your own introduction. Choose the best introduction out of the 8.
  • E-mail the name of the person who had the best introduction and the reason you chose the person to your instructor (Sato: ss903@columbia.edu, Hamada: hh2373@columbia.edu, Nazikian: fn2108@columbia.edu).
  • We will post the best introduction on the class blog.

2. Discuss what makes a good blog in groups of 3-4 people.(10 min.)

At the end of the semester we will have not only teachers but also you and your classmates evaluate each other’s blogs. We will use the results of your discussions today as a basis for deciding the criteria that we will use to evaluate the blogs at the end of the semester.
  • Discuss what makes a good blog in groups of 3-4 people.
  • Post the result of your discussion in the comment column of the blog. Make sure to include your names or initials with the posting so we know that you have commented.

3. Read the comments made about your own blog. (10 min.)
  • Please read the comments made by others about your blog. (People who have already read these comments can skip ahead to step 4 below.)
  • If you feel that it is necessary, please respond back to those who have commented on your blog.

4. Please comment on the blogs of students from other sections, as well as the blogs of students from other universities. (Comment on at least 2 blogs). (10 min.)
  • To view the blogs of students from other sections, look at the list of classmate links on the right side of the page.
  • To view the blogs of Japanese Level I students from other countries or other universities, click on the “Lets’ make friends” link on the right-side of the page. You will see a link for (にほんごいちねんせい) and under this link is a list of other universities. If you click on each of these links you will be brought to a listing of blogs of students from other universities.
  • Read the blogs and if you think you would want to be friends with a student, please comment on their blog.
  • Write at least one sentence in Japanese that includes one Japanese vocabulary word that we have learned!
  • Record which blogs you have commented on by writing them down on a comment sheet. Submit the comment sheet to the teacher at the end of the class.
5. Post your blog entry in Japanese. (15 min.)
  • Write a blog entry in Japanese
  • If you have no idea what to write, you can write about what you did on the weekend or your daily schedule.

A good blog for this class is both well-written and includes certain content. To be well-written, a blog must be grammatically correct and use what we've learned in class. An exceptional blog would utilize grammar beyond what we've learned in class. As far as content in concerned, a good blog should be as engrossing as possible. Preferably, it should include something about Japan and Japanese culture.

We decided that interesting topics, pictures, the occasional video useful information and links to resources.
Layout and color should be pleasing and easy to look at.
The information and language should be simple and easy to read. The level of language used when posting in Japanese should be on the same level as is current in the class.

Start with this and a good blog will follow.

A good blog consists of using grammar and vocabulary we've learned everyday. It is a good way to pratice on the blog. If a student need to use new vocabulary, he or she could provide the definition of the words so that the other students could learn.

A good blog should have a content that is easy and clear to understand. It should have interesting things to say about the person, so that other people can comment on the posts. People should also use what they learned in class to improve their Japanese skills.

We think the good blog should include such characters as follows:

First, it should be written in Japanese.

Secondly, it would be best if the blog writer can share with other classmates his own experience of learning Japanese.

Thirdly, it would be ideal if it is interesting enough to give us some enjoyment and relaxation besides learning new stuffs.

Finally, we hope the blog can include as much as possible new information, especially about Japanese language, literature and culture, etc.

A good blog should have at least five posts with good quality by the end of the semester. It encourages people to leave comments and has lots of people reacting to its contents. The layup should look original and pretty. At least one post should be written in Japanese.

Blog entries should be personal, interesting, and eye catching, but the poster should avoid great length. Short, but sweet, is generally the way to go. Posting should be regular, but each entry should also be unique. Different topics and different ideas in each entry adds to the interest of the blog overall. The entries should also be eye catching (videos, pictures, emoticons etc). Finally, correct grammar and good use of vocabulary is a must.

Good blogs have lots of pictures and videos, making it easier to visualize what the person is talking about. Information shouldn't be too dense, people are less likely to read it in its entirety. Grammar should reflect the tone of the blog and intended audience.

A good blog has a lot of pictures and videos to keep people entertained. It is also good for the blogger to write coherent Japanese in Hiragana and Katakana. Videos and music are also important because interfacing with your audience is key. Emoticons let people know how you are feeling.

A good blog must catch peoples attention. It should present things in a way that inspire people to try to learn more about the topic at hand. It should be written clear and concise and contain proper grammar and mechanics, but most of all it should reflect what the blogger has learned or their personal experience in learning Japanese.

From Ryan Martin and Sabine Schulz:

We think fun embedded content makes for fun engaging blog browsing. Videos are the best, pictures are nice, and lots of flash and style. A mixture of engagement with contemporary affairs and personal content is nice and keeps things interesting. Spelling and grammar are important.

Songs to go with each posting, carefully considered to match the theme of the entry, would be absolutely amazing.

Daily life is good, heavy philosophy is too much for a blog.

A good blog (for this class) should have many posts related to Japan/Japanese things.

Also, to make a blog more interesting it should incorporate various forms of multimedia (ie. pictures, video, links, etc).

In addition, a poster should attempt to use what s/he learns every day in class in order to show that s/he is actually applying the lessons.

A good blog needs understandable grammar and utilization of the vocabulary and sentence structures we've learned. The blog should have as much Japanese as possible. There should also be interaction between other bloggers commenting on your entries.

A good blog is straight-to-the-point and not too long, but it also contains a link to a further or in-depth reference in regards to the topic. It should not be too long because most of the bloggers are not particularly used to reading something very lengthy in Japanese. A good blog does not necessarily have to be advanced beyond the class section's progression. It would be nice to post pictures or other multimedia to make one's blog seem more lively. Furthermore, a good blog makes an effort to incorporate as much Japanese as possible, including Japanese vocabulary, culture, and interests.

A good Japanese blog entails
-daily updates written preferably in Japanese (once a week)
-varying sentence structure and putting to use the material we learned in class
-talking about Japanese culture or related to Japanese culture
-talking about interesting topics: food, books, music, tv, etc.
-putting graphic media like videos and music
-grammatically correct is preferably

Blog Criteria: (created by Danielle, Michi, and Asad)

1. Visually engaging (pictures that relate to post topics or videos that relate to Japanese culture, etc.)

2. Post topics: topics should be relevant to Japan/Japanese class (i.e. something we've learned)

3. Posts should incorporate Japanese vocabulary from or topics from class.

4. Any Japanese words we have not learned or that are written on someone's blog in Kanji should be defined (in Hiragana or English when necessary).
