The music group's website introduces a wide range of asian singers to the audience. There are plenty of photos and videos in each posting, which makes it informative to people who are interested in the singers. I also like how the group includes singers from all musical genres. As well as focusing upon mainstream music, genres such as classical music are also introduced.
wonderful, exciting music and its introduction is excellent. Especially the Asian music. I've heard a lot of good Japanese songs and known about many Japanese singers. pictures and videos are also wonderful compensation for the blog.
It would be better if more wide range information on music in the world.
I like the recommendation every time. Their words and youtube links are efficient. Their use of Japanese to enthusiastically introduce the music and their popular ages seems somehow not only comprehensible but also vivid.

二つの夢（ゆめ）、そして、今している事

子どもの時、私はとても大きかったです。それで、私は相撲とり（すもうとり：Sumo wrestler）になろうと思いました。相撲（すもう）とりはたくさん練習（れんしゅう）して、たくさん食べなければいけません。私は練習（れんしゅう）が好きじゃなかったから、相撲（すもう）とりになる夢（ゆめ）をあきらめました（to give up)。次（つぎ）の夢（ゆめ）は、パイロットでした。色々（いろいろ）な所（ところ）へ行けるし、それに給料（きゅうりょう）がいいから、パイロットはいい仕事だと思いました。その事を、母に話したら、母は「パイロットは目がよくなければいけないよ」と言（い）いました。私は目があまりよくなかったから、パイロットの夢（ゆめ）をあきらめました。

中学校に入学してから、バスケットボールを始（はじ）めました。毎日バスケットボールをたくさんしたから、自分（じぶん）の夢（ゆめ）について忘（わす）れていました。大学四年生になった時、中国へ旅行に行きました。卒業（そつぎょう）旅行でした。香港（ほんこん）から上海（しゃんはい）まで、バスと電車を使いました。私は中国語がぜんぜん話せなかったから、英語を話したり、漢字（かんじ）を書いたりして、中国の人と話をしました。その時、英語はすごいと思いました。そして、英語学校に入学しました。その学校を卒業（そつぎょう）してから、アメリカに来ました。

私がアメリカに来た年は、１９９８年です。もう１１年前です。アメリカでたくさん英語を勉強して、日本で英語を教えるつもりでした。英語が上手になりたかったから、できるだけ長い間(as long as possible)、アメリカに住もうと思いました。それで、インディアナで大学院（いん）に入ってから、日本語を教えました。日本語を教えたら、長い間アメリカに住めると思ったからです。

私は今も日本語を教えています。どうしてだと思いますか？

インディアナで教えた時、たくさん日本語を間違（まちが）えました。例（たと）えば、私は「さむいでした」、「今、なな時です」、「今日は四月はちにちです」と言いました。これはみんな間違（まちが）いでした。鹿児島弁（かごしまべん：Kagoshima dialect）だったんです！

日本語を教えるの(teaching Japanese)はやさしくありません。でも、私はそれがとてもおもしろいと思いました。それに、日本語の学生と日本語で話すと、私はとても楽しくなります。それで、今も日本語を教えています。そして、これからも、ずっと日本語を教えるつもりです。

みなさんは、大学／大学院を卒業（そつぎょう）してから、何をするつもりですか？何をしようと思っていますか？

先週の金曜日に、春まつりが二つありましたね。日本語学科（がっか：department）のまつりと学生のまつりがありました。みなさんは行きましたか？私は日本語学科の春まつりの後、学生のまつりにも行きました。そこでおもしろいものを見ましたよ。絵馬（えま）です。知っていますか？日本の神社（じんじゃ）によくあります。木でできた板（いた：board)に、将来（しょうらい）の夢（ゆめ）やお願い事（おねがいごと：wish）を書きます。そして、たくさんがんばったら、その夢（ゆめ）が叶います（かないます：come true)。みなさんも、お願い事（おねがいごと：wish）があったら、絵馬（えま）に書いたらどうですか？

私の好きな映画（えいが）、アニメ、まんが

日本の映画監督（えいがかんとく：director)の中で一番（ばん）有名（ゆうめい）なのは黒澤明（くろさわあきら）だと思います。みなさんは黒沢監督（くろさわかんとく）の映画を見たことがありますか。「羅生門（らしょうもん）」「乱（らん）」などがありますが、「七人の侍（さむらい）(1954)」が一番（ばん）有名（ゆうめい）ですね。ほんとうに古い映画ですが、ストーリーはとてもおもしろいと思います。

ほかに伊丹十三（いたみじゅうぞう）監督（かんとく）を知っていますか？「お葬式（そうしき）(funeral)(1984)」「たんぽぽ(dundelion)(1985)」「マルサの女(A taxing woman)(1987)」など有名な映画がたくさんあります。「たんぽぽ」はラーメンの話です。「たんぽぽ」を見るといつも、ラーメンが食べたくなります。「お葬式」は、私が夏にミドルベリー大学で５年生の日本語を教えたときに、使いました。

最近（さいきん）の映画では「リンダリンダリンダ(2005)」を知っていますか？高校の女の子だけのバンドの話です。ボーカルは韓国（かんこく）からの留（りゅう）学生のソンです。

私が好きな映画はドイツ、イギリス、ポーランドの映画「戦場（せんじょう：war place）のピアニスト(2002)」イギリスの映画「リトルダンサー(2000)」フランス、イギリス、ドイツの映画「戦場のアリア(2005)」です。

日本のアニメで有名（ゆうめい）なのは宮崎駿（みやざきはやお）ですね。宮崎駿のアニメで私が好きなのはやっぱり「となりのトトロ(1988)」ですね。一番（ばん）新しいアニメは「崖（がけ：cliff）の上のポニョ(2008)」ですが、知っていますか。私はまだ見たことがありません。ポニョはかわいいと思（おも）いますか。私はちょっと。。。

「ドラえもん」と「サザエさん」は長い間人気があるまんがです。さざえさんに出てくる人の名前（なまえ）はみんな魚（さかな）の名前を使っています。おもしろいですね。サザエ(turban shell)さん、かつお(bonito)くん、わかめ(sea weed)ちゃん、たら(cod)ちゃんなどです。みなさんはサザエさんをどう思（おも）いますか。

今アメリカでも人気がある「スピードレーサー」は私が子供の時のアニメで「マッハG0 Go Go」というタイトルでした。今、日本のアニメは世界（せかい）のいろいろな国で人気がありますね。みなさんは子どもの時にどんなアニメをよく見ましたか？

シカゴ

日本語の先生の学会（がっかい）があって、今シカゴに来ています。きのうの昼ごはんにピザを食べました。シカゴはピザがゆうめいです。みなさんはレストランUNOを知っていますか？私はそのレストランになんども行ったことがありますが、ピザがあまりおいしいと思いませんでした。でも、きのうUNOで食べたピザはとってもおいしかったです！

きのう行ったUNOはオリジナルのみせで、みせもピザもぜんぜんちがいました。やさいのピザをたべましたが、６人でSサイズを一つたのみました。ちょっと少ないと思いましたが、日本から来た先生は「アメリカの食べ物のサイズは大きい！」と言っていたから、一つだけたのみました。サラダやもチキンもたのんだので、すぐおなかがいっぱいになりました。

私は日本に帰ると、いつも日本のサイズは小さいと思います。アイスクリームやサラダはほんとうに小さいです。

今日は私の好きな音楽（おんがく）について書（か）きたいと思（おも）います。まず、J-popは平井堅（ひらいけん）です。秋にクラスでも「大きな古時計（ふるどけい）」を聞（き）きましたね。覚（おぼ）えていますか？平井堅は歌（うた）がとても上手で、声（こえ）もとてもいいから、よくオンラインで歌を買（か）います。平井堅が歌う歌はいつもとても有名（ゆうめい）になるから、テレビドラマやコマーシャルはよく平井堅の歌を使（つか）います。私は平井堅の歌を聞（き）くと、いつも元気（げんき）になります。この歌のタイトルは「エレジー」です。ニ年ぐらい前の歌ですが、聞（き）いたことがありますか？

次（つぎ）は演歌（えんか）で、ジェロです。ジェロは、おばあさんが日本人で、演歌（えんか：traditional music）を歌うアメリカ人です。いつもヒップホップの服（ふく）を着（き）ていますが、歌は演歌ですから、そのミスマッチがおもしろいと思（おも）います。ジェロも歌がとても上手です。ジェロの歌を聞くと、いつもカラオケに行きたくなります。

それから、ボサノバです。小野（おの）リサを知（し）っていますか。小野リサはブラジルでうまれました。妹（いもうと）が好きなので、私もよく妹からCDを借（か）りて聞（き）きます。この歌を聞くと、いつもとても楽しくなります。

最後（さいご）はクラシックです。私は大学のときにオーケストラでホルンをしていました。それから、子どものときにピアノを習（なら）っていたので、クラシックが大好きです。みなさんはピアニストの内田光子（うちだみつこ）とグレン・グールドを知（し）っていますか。内田光子のモーツァルトとグレン・グールドのバッハ（とくにフレンチ組曲（くみきょく： Suite）はすばらしいです！どちらもとてもシンプルですが、とてもきれいです。内田光子とグレン・グールドは勉強（べんきょう）するときよく聞く音楽（おんがく）です。

ひなまつり　"Doll Festival"

みなさん、

三月三日はなんの日でしょうか。しっていますか。三月三日は「ひなまつり」という日です。「ひなまつり」の「ひな」は「ちいさい」、「かわいい」といういみです。「ひなまつり」は女の子のまつりで、「女の子がげんきに、大きくなりますように」とかみさまにおねがいします。では、「ひなまつり」はいつはじまりましたか。実（じつ）は、はっきりわかりません。でも、平安時代（へいあんじだい：1000年くらい前）に宮中（きゅうちゅう）で人形（にんぎょう）をつくってあそびました。これが、「ひなまつり」のはじまりです。そして、江戸時代（えどじだい）になって、赤ちゃんがうまれた時、人形をかざりました。　　　

　　「ひなまつり」にはももの花をかざりますます。もものはなの「もも」は「百」といういみで、もものはなは「百さいまでいきる」といういみがあります。そして、「もも」にはわるいおににかつパワーがあるといわれています。

「ひなまつり」にはなにをしますか。たいてい、ひな人形をかざったり、あまざけをのんだり、ひなあられをたべたりします。え？子どももおさけをのみますか？しんぱいしないでください。「あまざけ」はアルコール１％くらいだから、「おさけ」ではありません。子どもものむことができます。それから、「ひなまつり」のうたもあります。さいきんは、「ひなあられ」じゃなくて、「ひなケーキ」をたべる人もおおいです。

ハイブリッド車

私は１９９８年にアメリカへ来ました。その時、ガソリンはあまり高くありませんでした。たぶん、インディアナで、１ガロンは１ドル２０セントくらいでした。そして、だんだんガソリンは高くなりました。２００５年にハリケーン・カトリーナが来て、ガソリンは３ドルくらいになりました。とても高かったです。今は少し安くなりましたが、１ガロンは２ドルくらいです。

ガソリンが高くなりましたから、最近（さいきん）は燃費（ねんぴ）がいい車が人気（にんき）があります。特（とく）に、ハイブリッド車（しゃ）の人気（にんき）が高いです。ハイブリッド車は、エンジンとモーターで走（はし）ります。

世界（せかい）で最初（さいしょ）に、トヨタがハイブリッド車を作（つく）りました。名前（なまえ）はプリウスです。１９９７年に、下のプリウスを作（つく）りました。

そして、２００３年に下のプリウスを作（つく）りました。

そして、トヨタは２００９年に日本で、新（あたら）しいプリウスを出します。下の写真（しゃしん）は、その新（あたら）しいプリウスです。かっこいいですね～。

ホンダもハイブリッド車を作（つく）っています。車の名前（なまえ）は、インサイトです。１９９９年に、下のインサイトを出しました。この車はとても小さいですから、燃費（ねんぴ）がとてもいいです。でも、二人乗（の）りです。

そして、ホンダは２００９年２月６日に日本で、新（あたら）しいハイブリッド車を出しました。これも、インサイトです。新しいインサイトは少し大きくなりましたから、五人乗（の）りですよ。

ホンダは、ハイブリッドのスポーツカーも作っています。小さくて、速（はや）い車で、名前（なまえ）はCR-Zです。発売日（はつばいび）は、わかりません。私はこのハイブリッド車が買（か）いたいですが、ニューヨークは地下鉄（ちかてつ）が便利（べんり）ですから、買（か）わなくてもいいです。

アメリカの自動車（じどうしゃ）会社（かいしゃ）やヨーロッパの自動車会社も、ハイブリッド車を作（つく）っていますから、１０年後はハイブリッド車がたくさんありますよ！

みなさんは、ハイブリッド車に乗（の）ったことがありますか。私はニューヨークに来る前に、プリウスに乗（の）ったことがあります。とても静（しず）かで、いいですよ。そして、環境（かんきょう）にいいです。ぜひ、乗（の）ってください。

旅行（りょこう：中国ーモンゴルーロシア）

１３年ぐらい前に中国とモンゴルとロシアに行きました。バックパックだけ持（も）って、一人で行きました。とても楽（たの）しい旅行（りょこう）でした。

まず、東京（とうきょう）から中国へ飛行機（ひこうき）で行きました。３時間（かん）ぐらいかかりました。とても近（ちか）かったです。そして、ペキンから大同（ダートゥン）まで電車で行きました。私は大仏(だいぶつ：Buddhist statue)が好きです。大同にはとても有名（ゆうめい）な大仏がありますから、ぜひそこに行きたかったです。大同でとても安（やす）いホテルに泊（と）まりました。そのホテルには中国人もたくさんいました。中国人は私（わたし）に中国語（ご）を話（はな）しましたが、私は中国語がぜんぜんわかりませんでした。とても残念（ざんねん）でした。でも、漢字（かんじ）で中国人とコミュニケーションできました。３時間ぐらいいろいろ書（か）きました。「どこから来ましたか？」「仕事（しごと）は何ですか？」「家族（かぞく）は何人ですか？」とてもおもしろかったです。でも、中国人と私は全然（ぜんぜん）話（はな）しませんでしたから、部屋（へや）はとても静（しず）かでした。紙（かみ）と鉛筆（えんぴつ）をたくさん使（つか）いました。

ペキンに帰（かえ）ってから、モンゴルのウランバートルまで電車（でんしゃ）で行きました。電車の小さい部屋（へや）で韓国（かんこく）人とモンゴル人と日本人と友達（ともだち）になりました。みんな中国に中国語を勉強（べんきょう）しに来ていましたから、中国語がわかりましたが、私だけわかりませんでした。ウランバートルでモンゴル人の友達（ともだち）に会（あ）いました。そして、モンゴルで一番（ばん）有名（ゆうめい）なお祭（まつ）りをみました。お祭りで馬(うま：horse)のレースがありました。遠（とお）くから一番（ばん）の人が来ましたが、私は小さくてぜんぜん見えませんでした。でも、モンゴル人はみんな見えました。モンゴル人はみんなとても目がいいです。

それから、電車（でんしゃ）でロシアのイルクーツクに行きました。電車の部屋にモンゴル人とロシア人がいました。私はモンゴル語もロシア語もぜんぜんわかりませんでしたが、モンゴル語とロシア語の会話(かいわ：conversation)の本を持っていたから、その本を使（つか）いました。すぐみんなと友達（ともだち）になりました。ロシアは夏でしたが、ちょっと寒（さむ）かったです。そして、午後１１時頃（ごろ）まで明（あか）るかったです。イルクーツクのほかの(other)名前（なまえ）はシベリアのパリです。とてもきれいでした。イルクーツクでは美術館（びじゅつかん）に行ったり、買（か）い物（もの）したりしました。レストランへもいきました。でも、ロシア語のメニューが全然（ぜんぜん）わからなかったから、ちょっと大変（たいへん）でした。

旅行（りょこう）に行く前に、中国語とモンゴル語とロシア語で「ありがとうございます」「わたしは〜です」「おいしいです」をおぼえました。とてもべんりでした。私の中国語とモンゴル語とロシア語は上手（じょうず）じゃありませんでしたけど、みなとても親切（しんせつ）で，すぐ友達（ともだち）になりました。旅行（りょこう）から帰（かえ）ってから、みんなに写真（しゃしん）を送（おく）りました。またぜひ行きたいです。

みなさん、ふゆやすみはどうでしたか。やすみはちょっと、みじかかったですね。わたしは１２月２７日から３０日までかぞくとワシントンDCへいきました。

ワシントンはあたたかくて、とてもよかったです。そして、しずかでした。ニューヨークにもはくぶつかんがたくさんありますが、ワシントンにはびじゅつかんやはくぶつかんがほんとうにおおいですね。　

ワシントンにはなんかいも行きましたが、こんかいは、こくりつアメリカれきしはくぶつかん (the National Museum of American History)、こくりつしぜんしはくぶつかん (National Museum of Natural History) 、ナショナル・ギャラリー (National Gallery of Arts)だけみました。はくぶつかんはどれもみんなおもしろかったですから、ぜんぜんつかれませんでした。とくに、こくりつしぜんしはくぶつかんがおもしろかったです。みなさんは、どのはくぶつかんが好きですか。みなさんの好きなところをおしえてください。

はるやすみに、またワシントンに行って、さくらのはながみたいです。ワシントンのさくらはとてもゆうめいですね。さくらの木のしたでおいしいおべんとうがたべたいです。わたしは、きせつの中ではるが一ばん好きですから、３月のはるやすみをたのしみにしています。

ブログコミュニティープロジェクト

This semester, you will have opportunities to discuss your interests through this project.

Purpose

Looking at your own interests,

Consult not only your own group members, but students from other colleges and others who understand Japanese,

And do as much as possible of the following:

Gather new information/opinions.
Offer new information/state your own opinion.
Exchange opinions.

* Use not only Japanese but include color, layout, gestures and sound (include media like pictures, music, and video, etc.)

Procedure

Start a community with ( 2 or more people) that share your interest (Examples of topics: Anime, music, martial arts, restaurants, travel, Chinese study).
Make a community blog (a link to the community blog will be posted on the class blog. Please post links to individual group members’ blogs on the community blog. Therefore, class blog > community blog > individual blog).
Group members must manage the group blog together. (Decide how to best manage the group blog together).

* You can individually join 2-3 groups, however, (occasionally in class we will break into the community groups for class discussions), so, please decide on a main community group.

* There will be an opportunity to make a new group, join another group, invite a new member to join your group, or change your group twice during the semester.

Evaluation

At the end of the term we will evaluate how much new information/opinions you were able to gather, and how much new information/opinions you were able to offer in your individual and group blogs. There will be individual, teacher and classmate evaluations of both your individual and group blogs.
We will decide on the evaluation categories together next week.

The Importance of Peer-Editing

The final, submitted draft of any writing activity is, of course, important. However, in the context of studying Japanese, the process of writing holds as much significance as the final draft itself. In Japanese class, we often make use of peer-editing, one part of the writing process. There are three main reasons why.

1) The writer’s intentions vs. the reader’s interpretation

The peer-editing process gives us insight into the differences between our intentions when we compose a section of text and the ways in which various readers will interpret this text. As all readers approach a text from different backgrounds, their ways of reading the text will differ. This is an important realization for all writers.

2) New Ideas

New ideas and realizations are often first come upon during the discussion inherent in the peer-revision process.

3) Helping one another

Reading classmates’ texts often leads to realizing and understanding the problems with one’s own texts. Also, the revision process gives writers the opportunity to obtain help in their weaker areas (for example: grammar, organization of your essay, information on the topic, etc) while helping their classmates using their own personal strengths.

We are lucky to have such a great class, so take advantage of each others strength and get better together before the opportunity passes!

1. About the Blog Project

We will start a blog project today. First, start by reading the post titled “blog project”, which illustrates the purpose of this project. Scroll all the way down and you will see the entry titled “blog project”.

2. The Development of the Blog

On this page, if you scroll down you will see the post titled: “How to Open a Blog Account.” Please read this and develop your blog. If you have any questions, please ask a nearby classmate any questions first, before asking the instructor.
Once you have started your blog please send the blog’s URL address to your instructor. (Sato: ss903@, Hamada: hh2373@, Nazikian: fn2108@).

3. Write a Self-Introduction in Japanese

In hiragana, please write the first draft of your self-introduction. (Please do not publish it online yet). For those who do not want to use their real names, it is also fine to use a pseudonym. For those who do not know how to type in Japanese, please click on the “Japanese and Computer” link on the right-hand side of this page. If after reading the information you still have questions please first ask a classmate before asking the instructor.
After writing your self-introduction, form groups of 2-3 students to peer edit your self-introduction. (Is your hiragana written correctly?) *If the hiragana appears too small on the page and is difficult to read, Apple users press the “Apple/command” key and the “+ “key together, (PC users press the “Control” key instead of the “Apple/command” key) and the characters will get larger.
After everyone in the group has read and corrected each others’ self-introductions, click “publish post” which then allows your post to be published.

4. Post in English (or your native language)

Please write in English (or your native language) about why you chose to study Japanese, also include what you are excited about, and you find difficult after your first 2 weeks of class.

*If you use a translating site (links are to the right), then everyone can read it so it does not have to be in English!

5. Comment

In order to receive comments from as many people as possible, please select "Settings," then "Comments," and choose either "Registered Users" or "Users with Google Accounts" under the "Who can comment?" section.

If you want to know how to type Japanese, please click the link listed on the right side.

2. Send your blog address (URL) to the instructor.

If you have trouble opening a new account, please let the instructor know.

If you already have a blog and you can use Japanese on it, you do not have to open a new account.

Welcome to the Blogging Project! For this class we would like you to keep a blog because it provides a place:

1. To share/express your happiness, surprise, excitement, and/or frustration, as well as any questions you might have, while learning the Japanese language (or any other topics).

While studying new grammar and words is very important when learning a language, it is equally important to actually use the language in a real life context. You must not wait to express yourself only when you think you have mastered the language because language learning is basically an ongoing process. In the beginning you may use English or any languages to express yourself, but I recommend that you gradually switch to Japanese whenever you feel comfortable enough to express yourself in Japanese.

2. To communicate with your classmates and other people outside of class.

Language learning is not limited to what you do for the course but also includes what you do and experience outside the class. For this project I will ask you to form a group with two or three students. The purpose of the group is to encourage and monitor each other (e.g., leaving a comment on each other’s blog and making sure everyone is following the schedule). I will ask you to change groups once or twice during the semester.

We will also create links to your classmates' blogs as well as blogs by students in other sections, other levels, and other schools, so you can see what other people think and feel about Japanese language learning (as well as other topics). You are also encouraged to leave comments on these blogs.

We know that your Japanese language is very limited, but you can convey your intended meaning more effectively by utilizing other resources such as pictures and videos. Remember that people utilize not only language but also other resources such as tone of your voice, music, body language, picture, color, font style and size for communication.

3. To reflect (or evaluate) what you have done so far.

Sometimes it is challenging to see our own progress or growth. Blogs help you to look back and see how you have changed through the course of your Japanese language learning.
